The Lower Hunter Region of New South Wales is experiencing strong population growth, driven by its diverse economy, climate and liveability. It is seen as the next significant city for Australia. At the same time, the region is experiencing drought condition placing extreme stress on its natural water resources. Kooragang Water produces high-quality recycled wastewater for industrial users, which helps to reduce their demand on the local drinking water system.

Currently, around 2,700ML per annum of recycled water is supplied by Kooragang Water, and options have been identified to increase the annual supply to over 4,000ML per annum. Kooragang Water is working with local customers and the local water utility, Hunter Water, to realise this supply capacity which will further reduce the demand on Hunter Waters drinking water infrastructure.
